Question ? 500E rear subframe in W124 wagon ?

I'm debating whether or not to "upgrade" the rear subframe to that of 400E/500E. Think it will fit my 1988 300TE ?

BTW: the 500E's subframe (minus suspension and control arms) replaces the rear rubber with R129 parts only.

Neil,
What do you expect the benefit of a 500E subframe in the wagon will be? I haven't looked but I would assume the subframes are the same???

The 500E & 400E share the same rear subframe, which is reinforced due to the added HP & torque.

The C36 engine puts out roughly the same as the 400E, so I'd like to put in a reinforced subframe and have less torque steer.

All I know for sure is the subframes on the V8 cars are much beefier. What I don't know is if it's a bolt-on swap, and if the V8 chassis cars had other reinforcement in the unibody construction back there. Since you have both, you could take some measurements and see if the mounting is all the same - I suspect it is. Not sure if this upgrade (if successful) will cure torque steer though. Interesting project!

Now I only wish I had a lift at home. . .

BTW: maybe I'll just replace the rear subframe bushings with the stiff EARLY SportLine ones, instead of stock or the R129's of the 500E. . .

Is the rubber in the rear suspension new & still allow torque steer? If you swap subframes and put new rubber (and had older rubber in the original subframe) it wouldn't be a fair comparison, but it'd probably solve your torque steer.
