Timevalve Y-Pipe Installed Today

I received my timevalve y-pipe for my 1994 E500 and had it installed today. Here are my thoughts:

It is well built, but mine had lots of little bumps bumps from overspray during welding on it. Only cosmetic, but wish it wasn't there.

Fit was also difficult. It eventually went on well, but I had to jimmy a crowbar between the two pipes that go to the cat so that everything lined up.

Other notes are that you might want to buy new gaskets as they are almost impossible to retrive out of the old resonator.

Now for the good part...this thing works. Exhaust sound at idle seems the same and on acceleration is a little deeper, but the HUGE difference is in throttle response. I can't speculate on hp gains or 0-60 times, but the car is quicker and more responsive. Period, end of story. Wish I had purchased one sooner.

Yes, but not much, just like with the 500E500. The MB center resonator is heavy so you will lose some poundage and getting better response as with the 500E500.

No, I don't have a "Time Valve" Y-Pipe, but I do have a y-pipe that I had made for me by my local muffler shop. It was a lot cheaper then Time Valve's. I believe Time Valve's y-pipe is $250 or so. The one I had fabricated works just as well and I only paid $40. Mines is built no differently then the way Time Valve does theirs.

Actually, time valve is $275

$40 is insane. Labor alone is more than that. I know a little about welding and exhaust fabrication and that's a ridculously low price. Any pictures to post?

Damn $275 is a lot. No, pictures to post, sorry. I agree $40 is insane, and the guy that made my setup busted his a$$ making it all nice and stuff, at the end he told me if he did it again he would charge about $100 or so because of the labor envolved.

Shanta, was your Y-pipe stainless?

You must have charmed the poor guy into giving it away!

I would like to have a complete system done and have talked with Lou about it in the past. It is hard to get 10 people together to do a small group build to keep the cost down.

I'd love to see any pix if you have them.

Thanks,

Group Buy?

Why don't we get hold of Timevalve and see what they would do on price for an order of 10 or something? I would order one if the price was decent.

I will send them an email and see what their response is.

Thanks,
Actually I didn't have to charm him. I usually get exhaust work and suspension work done at his shop. He was worked on all 3 of my cars. So I went in and asked how much to take out this center resonator and make a y-pipe in it's palce and he said $40. He thought it was going to be an easy cut and weld job. Well 2 hours or so later, he was like damn this is a lot of work. We used the factory mounting points (so everything would bolt up easily)but everything in between is all new.

Shanta,
You stole it! I bet the T304 is almost $20 alone!

As for a group buy, TimeValve was not very interested in even considering doing a custom exhuast for the 500E.
Doubt, they'll show much interest.

I would think we could get a few people together to have one made.

Spoke to Scott at Timevalve, and he said that there is a chance he might be able to convince his boss about a group buy discount, if we have enough orders. He could not tell me what that magic number would be for his boss to consider it. So, we left off with me telling him I would post this on the forum to guage interest in this Y pipe to see if it justified organizing one. So those interested, please chime in...........
