Angry crashed the White Lightning at the Point !!!!!

Joined the Adui Club this past Monday and Tuesday in my 190E 2.6 5-SPEED at Summit Point for a driving event (great bunch of guys). During some hot laps Monday afternoon Disaster Struck !!!!! On my way out of pit road onto the front straight I got her up to 90mph. Going into turn one the brake pedal went to the FLOOR I went offtrack at 90mph and into the gravel pit. This tor the rear bumper off the car. After sliding through the gravel pit I hit the concrete barrier HEAD ON and DESTROYED the front end of the car a guy in a Porsche that was behind me said the car flew though the air at 5 feet off the ground (OMG) !!!!! said it was quite entertaining Ray Tomlinson was in the car with me at the time and helped me get the car out of the PIT and onto the wrecker ( Thanx Ray ). The both of us are OK ta drive anotha day (TG) The people that were at the Point that day all came to help me out with what ever I needed all you guys out there that have had offtrack excursions, You know what it is like ta be there. I would like to thank everyone that was there that day. You guys made a bad day BETTER. Although my car is a wreck, I have made alot of friends in the Audi, BMW, Porsche clubs. SUMMIT POINT PEOPLE are the BEST !!!!!

Glad you're okay! Jeez, that's a big bummer-sorry to hear of your off-track excursion.

So, what let go? Did you lose a brake line?? Please let us know, and good luck getting it back together

Michael

I had my car brought back to Virginia on a roll-back. Hope to start pulling her apart this week. Lots of parts have been destroyed. My insurance company wants to total the car. I really need to look at it from underneath to determine if it can be rebuilt I do not know for sure what caused the failure. The car is really a mess and will take some time to sort things out. BTW, thanx for your concern. The 190E is certainly a STRONG chassis to withstand this kind of impact and leave its occupants OK !!!!!!

with older cars like W124's or W201's, a simple front end accident will make the insurance company write it off immediately because they base it on replacement parts from Mercedes-Benz. our front end will probably cost around 10 g's to rebuild from the dealer even though most of us will go to a junk yard or stick some aftermarket parts on it instead (euro lamps, body kit and actually save on $!)

sorry on the loss, best thing to do is take the cash, start gathering your receipts NOW, and buy the car back from the insurance company. OR you can talk to them but chances are they won't let you buy it back unless you have a re-builder license

I always have the option of excluding the insurance company altogether. After all it is my car not there's. The only decision I really have to make is if I want to keep drivin' a Benz or try sumtin else for track time

best if you don't report it at all... they'll rape you no matter what. all accidents on the track are never ever covered by insurance

That hurts in many places

Hate to hear the loss of the car but the best is you're OK and will be back to do it again. Even though you may be able to use insurance money for the repairs or loss, forget it as they are all a bunch of scumbags and will either raise your rates or drop you.
My 22 year old son was not turned down for health insurance but because that would look bad they quoted him a rate of over $700/month....like he could afford it!!

Think about rebuilding it and dropping in a Daimler/Chrysler 340"
to keep it in the family for MBCA reasons. Hope many of your parts are salvageable and you have the winter coming before the D/E season starts again to be prepared.

Good Luck,

I suggest you call your Ins. Co once you see if they're gonna cover it at all; if they plan to, ask him straight out up to what % of a vehicle's value will they consider repairing it? And what value have they determined for your car?

I went through all this recently with my TE (which was rear-ended quite badly in a chain collision), and my Ins. advised me that they will repair a car up to 100% of its value, and in my case ('88 300TE, 197k miles) that value was something a bit over $10k. Eventually it cost about $9k to get the car right, but you'd never know she's been touched and I'm confident the repair was done right (and with 100% MBZ new parts). Thanks Euro Collision in Newport, RI!

If you can get these values up front, I hope it will assist you in developing a strategy, at least, to best cope with your loss.

Good luck, amigo, and consider Toby's advice (I'm actually surprised he failed to mention putting a blower on the 340")

Why you ask, WHY??

1. To keep the car stock looking. More fun at D/Es.
2. The wheel wells aren't large enough to accomodate more tire.
3. Do you think I want Jim to outrun me??
A warmed over 340 will do just fine...375-400hp!!

insurance & why

Michael, my car is valued at 5,900 dollars blue book. I have put alot more than that into it in MODS of course. The original estimate from the body shop was 4,400. When the insurance adjuster came out, he changed it to 6,500. Thats when the fun began. After I worked the numbers with recycled parts from PGM, the number came down to about 4,500. The insurance company says that the threshold is 75% of vehicle value. This is not accounting for any hidden surprises with the engine. The oil pan was cracked open in the accident. Today, the insurance has requested a diagram of the accident site from me. Another stall tactic IM sure. Meanwhile my car is just sitting.

Toby, thanx for the compliment. I have been researching the 340 as it would be fun ta build an american iron/german hot rod. On ebay, there is a set of aluminum heads for 340/360 Mopar. The guy claims they came from a NASCAR craftsman series truck
