Euro lights

I understand there are Hellas, Bosch, TYC and Depo for a W124 conversion. Can someone rate the quality of the beam pattern, gaskets used etc. I would like to get some driving lamps for my 89 instead of the fogs, are Hellas the only option for the 500E style lamps?
I saw a post for TYC online, are they german made? and are they similar or better than Depo?
The ultimate would be the E500 driving lights with leveling and city lights in one package.

1- TYC and Depo are NOT made in Germany (or Europe, AFAIK). Light output is decent, probably near equal to Bosch/Hella. Fit, finish, and build quality is a little less but it's not that bad. The Bosch and Hella units are made in Germany (or elsewhere in Europe). TYC and Depo are probably about the same in quality, I think.

2- All the Euro lights have the leveling feature. To make it work, you need to buy the dial & bezel that mounts next to the headlights switch, and run the vacuum hoses from the switch to the lights. Usually this isn't needed unless you often have 4-5 people in the car and/or lots of stuff in the trunk (then you "lower" the lights so they don't bother other drivers). Oh, and they'll all have city lights too.

3- For 500E style, yes, your options are OE (factory) or Hella. PUMA sells the Hellas (with all 6 bulbs and connectors) for $499 plus S&H. Or, Speed-Autoteile.com can get OE ones for about $25-$50 less, but those may not include bulbs. You'll have no fog lights but I never used the fogs anyway.

4- New "standard" Hellas from PUMA are ~$399 plus S&H, with turn signals, all 8 bulbs, and connectors. Or, you can get used Bosch/Hella OE headlamps from MBATC.de for about $225 shipped (a friend of mine just got his used ones today).

5- I upgraded to 500E lights on both my cars. I love them, but they ain't cheap (I got them for less before the USD lost so much value compared to the Euro). I have a set of TYC standard Euro lights for sale, used, 1994/95 style, with one spare lens and 4 bulbs. Asking $225...

Can you give any more details on the quality of the used lights from MBATC.de? Just dirty, chipped or sandblasted lenses, etc?

From there web site it looks like W124 lights are 50-86 euros per side. Can anyone decode the part numbers they list (what are the diferences etc).

In the process of purchasing a 92 400E that I want to put Euro's on

Thanks for your help.
