irrgular idle when cold - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Hi,
I am getting mad at the moment whith my idle when the car is under 80 after a cold start.
The engine is not able to stabilize at regular rpm and evolutes in a range of about 100 to 200 rpm around 500 rpm.
The consequence is that a start from rest is always a bit dangerous because I always have to accelerate more than I should.
Once the engine is hot, above 80, no more problem.
Anyone has an idea ?

I'd repost over in the "Tech Help" forum, and include the vehicle information. I see on your profile you have a 94 E500, is that what you're working on?
Sounds like the throttle actuator to me.

Alexis. If you never cahnge out your engine wiring harness. You might want to check it. What happens sometimes the wiring that goes to the throttle actuator.
the wires become brittle when the engine gets hot these cars tned to run pretty erratic when you have a faulty engine wiring harness. If thats ok. Your going to have to repl the throttle actuator,not a cheap part to repl.

Hi,
Guido, it seems to be the wiring harness because the engine does not work on it's 8 cylinders all the time.
I am going to have it cheked.

Yes. Go idea. Hoe many miles you have on your car. Its worth to repl if you have moved that 75,000

Hi,
Guido, I am reaching 75000 miles (73000 exactly), so I will have it checked.
What should be done at this mileage ? all the liquid I suppose + filters + sparks but what else ? Shall I have the convertissor rinced ? What else ?

Alex. Every 60K change your fuel filtre,30K trans service with the torque converter drianed. also your air filtres..

Since your coming up on 75K. repl all your spark plugs.

The engine wiring harness should be repl. to avoid, engine stalling and rough running conditions.

hmm. Around 80-90K You sould have your timing chain and rails inspected, really if your going to keep the car. I would have them replaced.

Coolant evey 3 yrs Per mercedes benz,Brake fluid once a YR.

The rear end differential. Don't have to mess with it. Its alst a long long time.

That should do it. Maybe inspect all your water hoses, its a good idea to repl the rerar heater hose,drivers side rear of engine going to firewall. Then tend to get hot , due to age and eventaully start leaking.

Its a good I dealif your car is oever 9-10 yrs old to flush the Hydraulic suspension system, reservoir. Also Remove flitre inside reservoir and clean it up.
