Can anyone give me some opinions about what shocks/springs are suited for W140 chassis?? Also, does Brembo make brake upgrade for W140, if yes, where can I purchase it?? Thnx.

'92 400SE

P.S. I live in BC, Canada.

I'm sure Brembo makes a brake upgrade. You would likely have to buy 17" or 18" wheels depending on the size of your upgraded rotor/caliper package. Brembo does not sell directly to the public. Actually, we have talked with Brembo about advertising/distributorship. If you are in a major hurry for the brakes the usual suspects can supply the Brembo stuff. (bekkers, Renntech, etc)

Suspension bits for the W140 are a bit less common but they do exist. You can always buy from a tuner (cost no object method) or buy basically the same stuff from Bilstein and Eibach/H&R. Eibach has a "Pro-kit" set of springs for your year/model for $325 US. H&R makes sets for both self-leveling and non-self leveling for your car that drops the front and rear by 1.3" for $300 US. Add the price of Bilstein "Sport" shocks and install + alignment and you should be done. Renntech makes a kit for about $1,500 without labor. We will keep you posted on any developments. If there is anything else you need, feel free to ask.

Hope this helps...Lee

Lee, on your post above concerning replacement equipment at the lower price, would these also work on a 92 500SEL? Also can you tell me if my car is suppose to have the self-leveling suspension? I have found it difficult to find information about my suspension as well as upgrade replacements. Without understanding exactly what I have I can not determine what the cross references would be as you listed for the 93 400SE.
Thanks in advance Fred

Fred,
92 500SEL... Eiback has some "Pro-kit" springs for $325. Part number 2529.140 H&R has non-self leveling springs for $299, part #29739.1 H&R's self-leveling springs are part #29739.2 and the same $299. Those prices/numbers are from Tirerack. http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/index.html

As far as if your car has self leveling...Look under your hood for a reservoir of hydraulic fluid. (compare the underhood pics of the 400E and 500E on this site, the 500E has the reservoir) There should also be some reservoirs in the rear. (I think) Pull up the carpeting + spare in the trunk and have a look around.

Hope this helps...Lee
