Going down I-91...right next to the Mercedes of North Haven exit...it was a speed trap...was cruising at 106mph in my E300. The State Trooper was real nice, noticed that it was my first and that i was goin to join the Marines...knocked it down to 85mph in a 65mph with a $70 price tag.

Said, "I know your in a nice safe car, but slow it down..." and sent me on my way. Boy did I luck out.

I had my SDL up to 100 the other day on the Housitanic bridge but a %&*(%* Saturn was in the left lane and wouldn't move. I was going for a top speed run, but she pulled well up to 100 and I have to say drives better at 100 then at 60. *(^%(*^%($*%^(_*%^$ Saturns

My worst one (and first ticket) was 76 in a 55 in 1979. Given that it was 21 mph over the limit, my license was suspended.

Being a rebelious youth at the time, I blew off getting it reinstated...

Flash forward to 1995. I've moved to another state, got a license there, and am on a cross-country trip when I get pulled over in Missouri. They run a check on me, and find out that I "have no valid license" (since you're not supposed to be able to obtain a license in one state when it's suspended in another).

I'm taken into custody, and ask what the long forgotten offense was. "The records don't go back that far, all we can tell is that you never reinstated your license".

After paying a "fee" of $50 to "reinstate" my license, I'm back on the road.

FWIW, here's one you guys might like. I'm calling BS on the 205 MPH, but the cops are sticking to it. Happened in my neck of the woods.

A middle-aged man bought a brand new Ferrari. He took off down the
road, pushed it up to 100mph and he was enjoying the wind blowing
through his (thinning) hair.

"This is great," he thought and accelerated to an even higher speed. But
then he looked in the rear in view mirror and saw a Police Car behind
him, blue lights flashing.

"I can get away from him no problem," thought the man and he floored it
some more, and flew down the road at 150mph to escape being stopped.

Then he thought, "What the hell am I doing? I'm too old for this kind of
thing", and pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the
Police Car to catch up with him.

The Policeman pulled in behind the Ferrari and walked up on the driver's
side. "Sir my shift ends in 5 minutes and today is Friday the l3th. If
you can give me a good reason why you were speeding that I've never
heard before, I'll let you go."

The man looked back at the Policeman and said, "Last week my wife ran
off with a Policeman and I thought you were trying to bring her back."
The Policeman said.... "Have a nice day."

Leaving Alabama in a Shelby GT500 hit 147 at the Georgia line when I noticed the Alabama Cop who followed me downtown Columbus with his lights churnning. "If you ever come back accross the line" says he "you will go to jail", "well sir" said I "I really don't like Alabama that much". That was 35 years ago.

I've never been ticketed for anything more than 10 over, but that doesn't mean that I haven't proven that the top speed listed in my manual is a little light ...

Anyway, I was just looking for the article on my favorite speeder (happened in upstate NY here somewhere) but I can't find it...short summary:
The state boys had a speed trap set up on one of the lesser traveled, but higher speed roads late at night and for several nights in a row, their radar would go totally nuts (registering well into the triple digits) but no one was anywhere to be seen. It happened enough that they got curious and decided to have a road block ready if it happened again. It did, and they put a few cruisers in the road and stopped a brand new Ferrari w/ no lights. Turns out the driver was making late night speed runs w/ a pair of night vision goggles and especially loved to buzz radar traps to mess w/ the cops!
That would be fun....

My first speeding fine was for doing 48mph in a 30 one weekday afternoon. Only just past my test and trying to show off to the girl-friend (note trying in an ultra slow Austin A40 ). The fine was a fixed penalty SP40 around £40.

The only other time I got caught was doing 36mph in a 30 at 1:00am in the morning in my late teens. This time however I got an arrogant copper who wouldn't give me the fixed penalty and tried to do me for careless driving, insisting on a court summons. When at court the case got dismissed and I was just issued a SP30 but court costs etc. came to just under £300

lucky

I got caught testing the new engine in my 77 jag xj12l right on the edge of a residential zone in rubidoux, california. This was a twin turbo chevy conversion (which my dad still drives, after his 72 benz caught on fire). I floored it from a stop with one of those lil accelerometers on my dash... cop saw me from another corner, stopped me... that would be 98 mph flashing on the dash when he stopped me... in a 35 zone. The guy was impressed with the car and warned me!

mine was 77 in a 55..............which I recently beat in court........

but in numbers was 81 in a 65.........didn't beat that but got it reduced to a lower violation.

I did see them put handcuffs on 3 people in traffic court yesterday....on was a guy going 95 in a 55 zone............he got 30 days in jail but with 26 suspended.
