weak points of the C36 AMG
hello,
I am considering getting a 1995 C36 AMG with 108K this weekend , I was wondering if there are weak points to the AMG, Like transmission life and problems ,(only 5spd Mercedes for me ever) vavle adjustment and cylinder head rebuilds , timing chain is still a chain ,right?? Are parts hard to come by being only 400 of them here in the US, and any thing else i should know about the C36 thanks Dave 240D 4spd 300D 5 spd 300E 5 spd 190E 5 spd 190e-16v 5spd 190E-16v 5 spd 300SD auto (sold) |

try www.club202.com and www.amg-owners-club.org
Those have a lot more C36s on their forums. The main one is look for the engine wiring harness, and make sure that the C36 motor is really still there in the engine bay.

As with too many M104's you can get a head gasket oil leak. Not that bad (mostly messy oil leak) but the replacement head gasket is AMG specific and VERY pricey. Aside from that, if its standard C class its relatively inexpensive, if its AMG specific, you will pay a premium. Wiring harness is worth a closer look. For a 95 model you have the 4 speed tranny which is MUCH better option in that car than the 5 speed longterm.
Hope this helps, Lee |
