1) Linds, you mean the Eibach bar has a bulge in the middle? Someone else said it did not - now I really want to see it. Here's a photo of the Sportline bar, next to the 500E bar. Does the Eibach bar look like the 500E or is the bulge different?

2) I'm confused about the springs. Which springs did you swap into which car? Do you have an 12v wagon and also a 24v wagon? There are 4 different Sportline front spring part numbers, of which there are two variations each (red or blue paint stripe), plus the four different springs pads.

Yeh the bulge was similar but longer right up to just before the RH mount , does the operating lever for SLS fit in the same place on TE and E500 models? Both cars where 300TEs one 24V sportline and the other 12v non sportline the 12v now sits higher with the 24v front springs fitted the 24v sits about the same as before with the 12v springs fitted does that make it any clearer? Sorry for creating the confusion wish I had taken pics now! Linds

I have still not found the reason for my highriding TE, I tried loosening the LCA inner bolts and settelling the suspension before retightening this made no difference. The springs are seated correctly against their stops on the LCA, the top mounts are only 2 bump, the arch to tyre clearence is about six fingers!. The springs are quite new and appear to have a red and a blue stripe , the only odd thing I found was that the RH spring as a pronounced curve out towards the strut whilst the LH spring sits much straighter with more strut clearence?. Can the 24v model be so much heavier to cause this elevated ride height? Thanks Linds

Yes, the 24V is heavier.

What's the current status ?

FWIW, I'm now running 300E "Sportline" springs all around since I autocross heavily, and I really like it with 500E OE front struts, and the wagon's stock hydro rear struts. I'm also running 17-inch wheels with 245/45WR17 tires which are about 1/2-inch taller than stock (25-inches), which gives the suspension some compliance.

Hi Neil, I guess the 24V is alot heavier than the 12V the 24V Sportline springs raised the front of my 12V by 1.5" I removed them and cut out 1 coil the car noe sits OK at the front. The problem now is the rear the car is fitted with Sportline rear coils but normal Hydros I lengthened the adjusting rod and loaded the car opened the bleed nipple which dropped the rear by 1.5", but the car now feels really floaty at speed particularly when carrying passengers. How did you adjust your height sensor? The car as the 24v Sportline/Limo front sway bar and Sportline rear bar. Any thoughts on this mushy RangeRover like ride qaulity would be much appreciated, if theSportline hydros are the only way forward then I will have to start saving now!.Having driven Sportline TEs I didnt think the damping was anything special compared to a 201. The larger one goes with the sway bars the car seems less able to soak up pot holes etc but you still have the ponderous ocean liner feel at higher speeds Help Linds

Blast from the past...

Are there any updates to this thread? I'm presently in the process of setting up my '87 S124 for autocross/street.

I've ordered the following list of chassis/brake upgrades:

Front:
Bilstein Sports/Sportline dampers
H&R springs
Limo bar
R129 knuckles
SL600 334mm calipers/Silver Arrow rotors

Rear:
[Stock SLS struts]
H&R springs
500E bar
SL600 300mm calipers/non-drilled rotors

I'd like to know how best to deal with the rear suspension, given that I've got what I think are the original struts (ever so slightly weepy) back there. Would an upgrade to Sportline struts be worth the bucks? Apparently, they're made of pure grade unobtainium, and I'd rather no have to swap them if possible. Also, what's the process for dialing in the SLS once lowered springs are installed?

Thanks,
Casey

Casey, if the rear SLS struts are leaking and need replacement anyway... I would definitely step up to the Sportline units (via Speed Autoteile). Neil, didn't you buy a set for your 360TE wagon? How did you like them?

About adjusting the SLS, check out this PDF file, see section F. Those are the instructions for installing the AMG lowering kit on an SLS car.

Hey, that's pretty kühl! I've navigated all over your site, but never stumbled upon that one.

Thanks,
Casey
