35% HP boost

Anyone remember my post looking to boost power in my ’99 CLK320? Well, basically there isn’t much available, so I went with the nitrous idea. I plumbed in a simple kit with a 42 nitrous jet, that’s supposed to give me around 75HP. It works ok, but not what I expected. The power comes on a little slow, about ½ of it right away with a smooth transition to full power in about one to two seconds, even with a fresh purge. Overall power boost is about ½ of what I expected it to be. Maybe I’ll bump the jetting to 100HP and see how it feels.
I read that stock plugs like to melt and you need custom or modified ones. I was going to mod mine, but after trying to access them I decided I have better things to do my summer. Oh, and this car does not like to shift on the juice either, I think it’s pushing the motor into the fuel cutoff zone before it can shift so it dies at redline, then after about ½ a second or so of dead time it shifts very harshly before it goes again.

I have one of those G-Tech accelerometers I bought for my truck, if I find a good place to test it I will post a 0-60 with and without.

I put it together myself. Bottle, brackets, 20' -4 hose, two solenoids and some misc hose from egay for $270. All were new except the bottle and it's in perfect shape. Btw, the bottle is carbon fiber, $500 new. The nozzle and jets are from Summit Racing. Switches, solenoids, wiring and AN fittings I had lying around. So I'm lookin at about $400 all together. If you’re looking for a simple ready to go kit then I’d look at the NOS brand #05130 or 05131. A V12 should be able to handle 150-200HP w/o any problem. That would be sweet!

The shifting problem has never returned since that first day. I'm still working on 0-60 numbers, so far I only have them for w/o nitrous and they vary between 6.06 and 6.48, it’s very hard to get a good launch with the ASR and the soggy EFI system. If I can feather the throttle and get the efi to make power, then the asr kicks in, so no matter what I get held back. New tires today will help, and hopefully (cross my fingers) cure that problem.

Do you think there is away to disable the ASR ? I am new to all of this so bear with me. Thanks for the NOS info. I like the speed, but I would really like the pull away speed better.

Let me know if it is possible.

I started a thread on that subject last week:
Can anyone do burnouts like in the Kleemann pix above?
So far no luck....

Mark: I didn't see superchargers for any Mercedes on the Vortec site, I couldn't find House of Power. This is the only one I've found anywhere for my motor, but at 11K it's bit too much for me:

I "might" pay 3K for a supercharger if it was generic and I could transfer it to my next car.

Renntech sells systems for the CLK320:
the top system raises HP to 404, torque to 410. It's a high boost supercharger with intercooler, new cams, ported and polished heads, increase in displacement to 3.8, new ICU, new muffler and air box. Just shy of $23K. If you want your CLK500 to reach 530 HP plan on a bit short of double that $23K.

Trading the 320 in on a 430 would give you close to a 35% boost in horsepower all the time and without reliability problems. You'd get an even better increase if you traded it in on a 55 (I am a little biased, though). Also, if you're having trouble accessing the plugs on a 112 motor, maybe putting nitrous onit isn't a good idea. The engine management system needs major tweaking for any mod to be all that effective.

Thanks for the input, but I’m not rich enough to dump 23K into a 20K car yet. I would definitely install a V8 Chevy motor long before that anyway. Yeah, I know it’s taboo, but the HP to $$ ratio can’t be beat.
According to data online, my car is quicker 0-60 than a 430. Then again, maybe a 430 is quicker than it’s rated? Anyone have first hand 0-60 data for their cars? I still have not had the opportunity to test my time with nitrous, but it makes a big difference now that I’ve changed the jetting a bit. Plus I’m not sure how, but the ASR “off” switch actually turns the ASR off now. I can actually floor it in first now! I was rooting around in there, so I guess something I fixed it? So that and new rubber has made acceleration from a stop a day and night difference!

PHAEDRUS242; I think nitrous might put me in 55AMG territory. Of course it’s cheating, but it’s still fun.
Btw, I still haven't changed those plugs out yet, too big of a job in this summer heat. I think it might be easier to lift the motor a bit to access them, I dunno.

Seriously, they come right out. If you're having trouble with removing the supressors, there is a special tool the MB has that make the job quite a bit easier, but it isn't essential. If you have some basic extensions/U-joints the job should take you all of an hour on the six cylinder models. It is not nearly as daunting as it appears to be once you get going on it. Even on my 55 it takes me about an hour to get them doen, althogh I do have the advantage of using shop air after the mechanics go home (only after breaking them loose by hand and never to tighten).
