Eibach Spring Delima
I have tried to purchase the Eibach Pro Kit for my 1994 E420. The factory has discontinued them and I cannot find stock.
Any help locating these would be much appreciated, Andy |

Since no one is has any good info, I'll step in with some potentially good info. The folks at http://www.portcityracing.com/ have a great catalog of racing goodies. You won’t find Mercedes mentioned here, but you’ll have a nice spring collection to choose from. Different diameters, lengths and rates to choose from. Maybe none will work, but it’s certainly worth a look c. Their site was down as I wrote this, but my fingers are crossed so I’m sure they’ll be back in no time.

www.tirerack.com has a set of H&R springs for your car low stock though. Call luke at tirerack, I am sure he can help you out.

Jeez, folks, just cut the OEM springs... How do you think they got to the length you have anyway?? Remember springs are extruded in a continuous length then cut, no matter who makes them.
Easy rule of thumb... Count the number of windings. Measure the distance between coils. From there, everything will be proportionate. Simple math and it works. |

Quote:
1. Extruded- No Springs typically are not extruded, they are rolled. 2. My friend measured he wanted a 1 inch drop, so he cut the proportional amount of links as you are stating, but it dropped it about 1.5 inches. 3. OE (Original Equipment not OEM) springs do not ride the same way that lowering springs ride. Lowering springs give you a much stiffer ride and better steering response. try www.modacar.com www.club202.com has a link to an aftermarket spring supplier Best of luck with your 124.034 Regards Austin

I am thinking of putting the pro kit on my 94 E420 as well. I had H&R on my previous 300E. It rides too stiff for me, that's why I am not that hot about H&R. Keep us posted.

I would caution anyone cutting OEM stock springs. The spring rate is determined by the overall length, not just the engineered rate between coils. There are coils that are progressive in rate, rather than linear, so changing length could have unpredictable effect,
Cutting higher rate springs, such as a V-8 124 model going into a 201 can be done, but the typical report is that the ride is great for the track, but bone jarring in town. |

DON'T cut your springs. Get you a set of H & R springs. You will love them. Great product, great customer support.

I have a set of Eibach springs for my E420 sitting in my garage in the original box, never opened. I haven't decided if I'm going to put them on or not (had them for about a year and a half). I might be willing to sell them.

How about the sportsline spring and shock? How does it compared to H&R, Eibach?

I don't get the dilemma here. If you can't get Eibach, get factory 500E springs, which are cheap and easily available. They will lower the car about 1 inch all around. You can cut a SMALL amount off (like, 1/4 or 1/3 coil) if you want more. If your 400E doesn't have self-leveling, you'll need the Sportline rear springs instead - that's what the factory used on the Euro-only E420 Sportline. If you're really anal you can order the E420 Sportline front springs from Germany. You'll want the 500E front struts to match, and the 500E rears (with SLS) or Sportline/KONI rears (non-SLS).
