Need Advice: M103 Turbo Project
I've done a lot of searching and a lot of research on this subject but still have a few questions.
First Background: Budget turbo job; nothing big, nothing fancy. Car is a 1991 300E m103 that has been well taken care of. I am looking for minimal boost (just a little extra kick) at minimal cost for maximum relability, but I want to do it right. I just had a free turbo land in my lap and I have no projects currently underway and this sounds like a good learning experiment (or do I mean 'experience'?). Turbo in question is a Garrett out of a 1991 300D 2.5. I am looking to get about 4 psi boost, just a modest upgrade, and I plan on going w/ at least a small intercooler. I pretty much have the exgaust manifold, oil lines, boost gauge, and general set up worked out (w/ the exception of better heat distribution/removal) at least in theory . The Questions : 1) Going w/ such a low boost how much will I need to retard ignition timing? What is the best way to go about this, can I do it w/ stock equptment (what's already under the hood? What other (cheap) options do I have? 2) Will I be able to get away w/ simple mods to my injection system (as in no new parts) to handle such a small boost? Or will I still be looking for a computer piggy back for my CIS? Has anyone made (or know where to get) something that would hook up to the Fuel Pressure Reg to make the car run richer under boost? 3) I will probably need a bleed off valve before the intake. How much will this run me? 4) Do I need to go w/ colder plugs? If so what kind? 5) I guess one more ? to add is: Is it worth the effort for that little boost even if I am not paying for the actual turbo? Most of the info I have been able to dig up is for boost jobs in the 5.8-7psi range. I know I will have to spend $ on this project, but part of the fun is seeing how much extra power I can get for how little $. How many peices I can fabricate (my time is not so expensive at the moment and I can do a lot myself). Thanks for any imput/experience! -Matt-

Do a search and you''ll find everything you need to know.
I'll answer a few q's. CIS can't be piggybacked. CIS can handle 4psi. I'm not sure but I don't think your stock injectors would suffice. You won't need an intecooler for such low boost. Do a search (Turbo M103) numerous discussions answering every question you have plus much more
