New Custom 500E Cat Back

Hello everyone. I have finally done my 1992 500E Cat Back Exhaust. This was done by a client of mine at Allan Auto Tech in Burnaby. It looks good! Check it out on my site....

This exhaust is definately inspired by Gerry in Portland, Oregon. His system that he put on his car a while back is what I used as a visual template. Thanks Gerry:D The system is put together with mandrel bent tubing and includes a stainless Dynomax muffler with a polished stainless tip. The pipe is aluminized because I plan on powder coating from the beginning of the muffler back to the "Y"

The car sounds great without being too loud. It has a nice rumble and sounds great at full throttle. Higher RPM's feel better with the Butt Dyno but there are some things I now need to do. First, I need to disable the ASR. I will get a switch in soon. When you trounce on it off the line, the ASR really backs off the motor. Second, I need bigger tires to hook the thing up. I will look at that when my Michelin's are gone (which is soon). Now I can see why the car is engineered the way it is. A stock 500E is a well balanced performance car. Now that I have made changes (the exhaust), I have to keep going but I was prepared for this.

Now that I have done it, I truely do love the sound and how it revs but in all honesty, I think a "Y" pipe in place of the center resonator is enough. Why I say this is because that thing is really heavy:eek: The muffler wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Bang for your buck, it drops a few ponds and probably does give the car a healthy roar when accelerated. No regrets though. I am selling my stock exhaust to someone on this board so they will go to a good home and help me recover some of the cost. BTW, it cost me $650.00 (after tax) Canadian, parts, labor, and time.

Cheers!

LOVE your car! Reminds me of my old 1995 E420. Same color, etc. I miss the ol' girl. Much better quality than my 2000 E430.

IMHO, you need to get a set of AMG wheels and some tires on that baby. CONGRATS!

You're right......

......about the wheels. Monoblocks would look good but I may just put on some 245 / 50 / 16's ZR. We'll see. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers!

Hi Shaun: Nice ride....we need to have a Canadian Rocky Mountain GTG one of these days. :)

Thanks Dean

I also owe you a thanks for your great website! It was really helpful when I was looking for my 500E. A Canadian GTG would be awesome! I am so busy right now with business, my son, and the baby on the way but those are just excuses ;) I would love to take the beast through the Rockies. Cheers!

Hi Shaun , did you use the same type of muffler front and rear ? Super Turbo or Ultra Flo ?

BauhnBuster 10-18-2004 11:40 PM

Hey Kyle....

I used a straight through pre-muffler and a chambered muffler in the rear. Both are Dynomax. The tip is polished stainless steel.
