Ripped off

Some of you might have seen a post of mine on another forum where I related that my top got slashed on my 83 280SL and I was grateful the low lifes didn't steal anything. Turns out I am wrong - they stole the stupid Euro first aid kit, as I discovered today at the car wash. $1500 worth of damage for a freaking first-aid kit. Life sucks sometime. Does anyone have a good source for the correct first aid kit? Used would be fine.

Wow, KV. Sorry about your episode. Looks like someone knew what they want. How bad was the slash?

They sliced it twice, once over each door. Top is ruined, I patched them for now with some sail canvas - the patch didn't come out half bad but I will have to do a new top in the spring. Other than that and the first aid kit not a whole lot of damage. Thank God they did not go after my cherry interior with the knife. Such is life in Houston. Its my own damn fault - I was taking a night course at Central College which is smack dab in the middle of the worst part of Houston, and they nailed me in the parking lot there while I was in class, probably looking for a stereo. Guess they don't like old blaupunkt cassettes. I don't know what they thought the FA kit was - my dope stash? CDs? Be the last time I drive it there.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that Kirk. Its every convertible owner's nightmare. I too have a Blaupundt cass/am/fm with removeable face. I doubt anyone could get much for it though.

I may take your advice from now on.

Since I live in a hot climate, I have a lot of experince with radiator problems. One like you describe can be caused in older cars by silt buidling up in the bottom of the radiator over the years, cutting the amount of coolant it holds. A good flush helps, also you can hot tank the radiator if that is possible with MBs radiators, or just replace it.

Sad to hear -- I wonder of mine sometimes when I am parked downdown Seattle for a Sonics game or dinner. Maybe I'll be putting my hard top on sooner this year. Question for you tho- both of my SLs have the first aid kit in the trunk -- where was yours kept in the cabin?

yes, it is mounted on the passenger side of the package tray. They actually reached in and grabbed it as they were not able to unlock the doors. They probably thought it was a CD case or something.

I think my 77 280E was the same way, the FA kit was in a flip-top arrangement on the package tray in the cabin.
