Ah, the good ol ASR problem's back... Been here, done it.
The Snap-on scanner probably won't read the codes (it doesn't on my 93 either) if your 600 runs what's known as an analog system. This actauly means that all fault codes are transmitted as pulse codes (apart from the LH system). However the up side is that you can read these yourself with an LED. Your Snap scanner should read the LH unit with no problem - but that doesn't help you I know. First read EVERY post here, including mine. Then report back with more info...when it happens, how the light illuminates, can you repeat the ASR light condition on demand, is it the ASR fault light or the ASD light that's illuminating, does the car go into Limp home mode?? more etc, etc... Lea

ASR Bypass
Hi Thanks fot the reply
Looks like I have no way of pulling the codes so i have seen where some have bypassed by taping off connectors 37,35,and 25 on a 500SL will this work on a 600SL (94) I tryed but either the tape did not work or the terminals are different on a 600. Thanks for any help |

ASR on 129 SL
LOTs of things can cause the problem. Does it go into limp mode or just the light? There should be a push button switch/red LED assembly attached in the computer box under the hood to use in pulling the pulse codes from the check engine light. The ASR codes are digital and your scanner should read them.
The REAL problem is they often do not give any good answer. Bad wiring is very often the real cause--insulation turns to crumbs and dust inside the black jacket. |

94 SL-129 ASR light
BTW I also have 94 sl-600, and am very familiar withthe issues. In my case, bad coax cable was final cause--but ETA's, main harness, engine top harness, bottom harness, etc. Not a pretty situation. Master techs at Dealer won;t touch them if they can help it because any movement of a wiring harness can 'trigger' a insulation failure and cause a new problem.

The MT2500 will NOT read pulse codes - forget it, I have one! However it will read your LH unit very nicely
Becarefull of bypassing the ASR system, have a read over here first
