Need a new soft top for 1985 380 SL

I need a new soft top for my 1985 380 SL. Any suggestions on where to get it done and how much it will cost? Has anyone bought a kit and done it themself?

There are lots of places that sell them for $400-600, including Adsit. Installation runs about $500.

There are lots of posts on self-installation, and I will send you the section off the CD if you send me an email. I personally would not try it. You are working with contact cement, which is not very forgiving.

I had mine done at an auto upholstry shop. Any reputable shop ought to be able to do it for you.

It might be interesting for folks to post how much they paid for a soft top replacement. Locally in Winston-Salem, NC, I was quoted $1,400 for my 1983 380SL. When I note that a German Canvas top can be ordered for around $400, I think this is quite on the high side.

I bought my top from a company called HMI for around $400 and was quoted about $400 for installation at several different shops. I did it myself with my wifes help over two days working about 6 hours each day. Would I do it again? No way it is worth paying $400 to let someone else do it as far as I am concerned. There are a couple of different websites with installation instructions but I do not remember the names. A simple search for convertable top installation should turn them up.
