Unhappy Air tube, 87 560sl

Hey, this is a great place. Now another question. The air tube in my MB will not stay in place. The part mumber is 107 094 0382. It is a plastic tube about 13 inches long and 3 inches in diameter. When I install it it has about 1/4 inch overlap at the grill intake and another 1/4 inch at the air filter intake. It seems there should be some extra slip piece to extend the air tube so it will stay in place. Are there clamps for the ends. Again, any help will be much appreciated as my dealer is not much help as he is not making $75 per hour. Thanks in advance. VLP

I don't have the parts book for the 560. You should be able to go to the parts department of your dealer, and have them look up that number. Their system will give you an excellent view of all the parts needed to connect the tube.

Wink Previous advice

Chuck. Thanks for the comment. I have been advised of the correct part number and I have that. It just does not seem long enough and it does fall out into the engine compartment from time to time. Also, my dealer does not let anyone look at anything. You buy or nothing and Phil here on the system seems quite good.

air tube

I have the same problem on my 560sl and recently learned that there is an adapter piece that I'm missing that goes from the front of the tube to the intake area at the grill. I don't know the part #, but MB should sell the adapter.

The air tube goes on by more than 1" and uses no clamps. One reason it might be comming off is the engine mounts are bad allowing the engine to lift excessivly.

I'd say that this is possible, as well as bad subframe mounts that allow the radiator frame to jump up and down in relation to the engine. With new mounts, my 560's air inlet hose fits very well and snug. I have reason to beleive that this sort of problem is the leading contributor to the radiator neck snapping problem, not simply the age of the plastic. That radiator hose doesn't have a lot of slack in it.

Hi Guys,

Just woundering if the tube you are talking about provides the 560 with a cold air intake?
If so would you have a picture? Just want to know if I can adapt it to my 82 500 SL?

The 13 inch tube has a end cap addaptor that you are probably missing. the 13 inch tube slips over the metal air filter and then the forward part has a 2 inch adapter that the tube attaches to. Then the adaptor slips onto the airmanifold that is bolted to the front radiator support structure.
