1983 SL soft top seal replacement?

I have a 1983 500Sl and I was attempting to fold the top up and I tore the rear rubber seal just below the rear window. The top is in great shape. I hope that I can just replace the seal. I can't seem to find the seal. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thank you very much.

I'd check Fastlane (tag at the top of your screen) first, and if they can't help go to the usual suspects for tops; I know World Upholstery carries all the seals.

I have an extra seal, brand new. Let me know if still interested.

This seal is available aftermarket and I have had good luck with most, but not all, aftermarket seals (except the boot lid cover). The one you describe is the only one I haven't replaced, because I wasn't quite sure about how it would come out-do you have to take the piece of meta that seems to hold it off? Please let us know!

Thanks for your helpI have succeded in getting the top town. Dad took a look at it and said that it should be okay for awhile. Its just a small tear that he dosn't think will leak. I will be watching it very closely. I'm glad to know that it can be replaced if need be. Now I have to just get the top crank system to work all of the time. Another post I guess.

Fastlane has it for $19.88. It's under Body Mechanical & Trim and is called a Roof Seal on their site.

You do not need to remove anything else to remove or install the seal. It should just pull out. To install it, use a plastic wedge. I like using a plastic Kleen-strip scraper. Metal will increase the odds of tearing the seal. Once you have the old seal out, you'll see how it stays in.
