Question Where to get an English Language Owners Manual for an '84 280SL?

A friend has been looking for quite a while. Electronic or hardcopy would be fine.

TIA for any leads!

Have you looked at Ebay-- I see them there often.
I bought one for my 1980 280SL a while back and I should still have the info somewhere from where I ordered it. It was new BTW. My 1984 came with one when I bought the car. I'll let you know thru a new post if I find the ordering place I used.
good luck

Thanks for the reply. I'v checked Ebay...even completed auctions and have come up with nothing.

If you find the vendor please let me know who it is. BTW, is your '84 manual specifically for the 280 or is it a manual for:

"1982-1985 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL/380 SL/500 SL" ??

Also does it describe/translate the german text on the guages and controls accurately?

Thanks again for your help.

Rick -- have you checked with MBUSA? See link below (for the multi-car manual you mentioned in your post) -- it seems to be out of stock, but can be "backordered".

Rick,
Not sure if it covers the 1982 -1985 but yes it is for the 280/380/500 SL same as my 1980 Sl manual. Not quite sure what you mean by the translation of the gauges - I have no german text to translate on any controls or gauges. I think when the owner which owned this car since new had it changed to american when they imported it in 1987 - (I think they we army or navy and were stationed in Germany and transfered back to the States in 87)

280 SL Question

Hello all I have a 280 SL question more for edification than anything else. A buddy of mine picked up an 85 280 SL and it looks great. But he thinks the car was brought over from Germany (possibly military). So that is my question, was the 280 SL marketed here in the states or are these cars all imports that were bought in Germany and imported over by there repective owners?

Thanks in advance for all of your insight......
Phil

The 280SL is a ROW car (Rest Of World = Not US). It was never sold through established MB distibution channels. In other words they are "grey" market cars.

In July of this year I purchased the manual you're looking for. My car is a 1983 280SL Euro. I was starting to get good at translating German!

I bought it off of ebay from euroautoparts.com the original link for this was from WITHIN this SL forum - I tried to find the link again for you but no luck.

I've got the shipping envelope it was sent in, here's the address and phone that reads from that - better than nothing:

www.euroautoparts.de
Alexanderplatz 5 10178 Berlin Germany
Phone 0049(0)179-524 37 62

The manual is for 280 SL, 280 SLC, 350 SL, 350 SLC, 450 SL, 450 SLC and 450 SLC 5.0

If you need some info on the car right away I'll be glad to look it up for you.

I've got one in English for a 280SL. I had to pay like 40 bucks for it on ebay, and I had o try for it a couple of times because I kept getting out bid. I think it was the same outfit - Europarts whatever.

I have German on the cruise control lever, but that's it (aside from various decals and plates). He probably is talking about description and functions of gauges and buttons.
