CC panel frosted mini lights???

The climate control dash panel with control buttons and knob use a very unique mini light bulb to illuminate the panel as well as fiber optics. The three that I have are burned out, they are frosted, and the standard mini bulb size that is available at most retailers will not slide into the socket, close, but no fit! Too much wattage might melt plastic too!

Can anyone elaborate on this such as were I can purchase, and about how much money they cost? It wouldn't surprise me that the dealership would charge $8 or $12 each. Also the shift base has an odd sized bulb to illuminate gear position! BB

Busybenz,

if you have a toyota dealer near, they use the same bulb-- just bring your bulb to make sure you get the right one(s) fit 1997 to 1999 camry

ALOT cheaper

Thank's Perry!

So far, I've been able to avoid the stealership, but I'm not holding my breath either! I haven't had any luck finding a new rubber base molding for my shifter and will have to say uncle sooner or later! BB

PS: What ever happened to those pictures???

I've been able to find the 2721 bulbs (as listed in the Sylvania book) very easily at the local Pep Boys. They are 1.2 watts each and used for the 2 lights inside the instrument cluster as well. They pop right in.

The packages were $3 or $4 for 2 bulbs.

Note that for 1980 cars the Sylvania light replacement guides (the book, on the website, and the electronic gizmo at the store) were not complete (or accurate, for that matter) for the 1980 cars. Choose a mid-late 80's 560SL in the selection guide and you'll get the right bulbs you need.

The store also had 2723 bulbs which were 2.3 watts if i remember correctly and put them inside the dash. As an experiment I bought one package and put them inside the instrument panel. They were really bright but after running them for 5 minutes you could feel the heat building in the area, so I took them out. I really don't know how 5 watt bulbs would survive very long.

I also bought a bunch of blue "74" internally reflected replacement LEDs and put them in the instrument panel and the climate control panel. They looked quite cool but, honestly, not bright enough to be practical.

I could not find the shifter bulb anywhere since it had a different base, so I wound up going to the dealer for that one. The bulb was $3 I think, search my messages for the exact part number.

Steve
