'85 500SL computer "clicking"
After startup and on the throttle, my engine computer (in the passenger footwell) "clicks" loudly. No smell of a short and its been doing this for a year. Any ideas? Can I replace the computer with a domestic model? the car has 58K mi, with no engine problems. I appreciate any guidance.

Not to insult your intelligence, but are you sure it's the computer? I'd guess what you are hearing is one or more of the relays above the fuse panel sticking. These relays are next to the body and to the right of where the ABS computer is located. There are several relays there and I've pulled mine: cleaned the contacts on them and replaced one (about $16.00). The problem went away.
If it turns out you do have a computer going bad, I have one that I'll sell you.

My Fuel Pump relay chattered and clicked
I developed idle speed and stalling problems. My Fuel pump relay (above the fuse box, remove the side panel) was clicking, then chattering. I replaced it but no change. I had to replace my ignition control unit (Drivers fenderwell, goes to the coil) and it eliminated the problem. Mine was very hot after 1/2 hour of driving. Good luck.

I also have some some strange clicking noise pretty loud it comes from the inside dash center position. It comes after I drive for some time and use AC. It is sounds very similar to MB factory alarm system when it is clicking but this sound is coming deper from the dash and is louder more like chattering.
Everything works fine but the noise goes away after I restart the car. No clue what it is? Balsa P.S. 1986 560sl with 120k miles. |
