450SL Euro - How to remove rear seat?

I have new front seat covers and a new folding rear seat on the way for my 1980 450SL. The front seat removal has been covered in the search forums. Any tricks in removing the rear folding seat?
Thanks
Eric

Maybe if you push in and lift up? I did see slots in that panel in front of the gas tank before I glued the new carpet in. I'm sure they must have been there for that seat!

How's your project going? I'm still waiting for winter to stop being winter and start acting like spring! BB

Hello BusyBenz

Good to hear from you. Just enjoying the car, driving it as everything is just in a slow stage now. The front/rear seats will be the biggie item for the car. I do intend to beadblast and repaint the OEM rims. Also when I have the seats out I am going to put in a CD player and replace the speakers. I intend to replace the rear seat my self but intend to have a trim shop install the new pads and covers. I also ordered a arm rest kit to install.

I bought a worm winch from Harbor Freight and have built a small bridge crane to attach to my garage ceiling. I will probably install that this weekend. I have a strap which fits the hardtop but did my own hoist thing. I intend to just keep ot suspended in the garage ceiling. The benefit of the small bridge crane is that I do not have to have the car exactly positioned underneath the lift.

The weather here is warm but we are in the rainy season. The grass is turning green and the trees are budding so we will have "convertible weather" here in less than 30 days. We are probably 3 months ahead of you with regards to convertible season.

I have found that adding a fuel additivie for "hotter" gas really helps the cards performance. I have done enough research now to know that my Euro only has a cat convertor and is missing al of th other smog controls.

I also would like to detail the engine compartment as that is an area that has been neglected.

I'll give you "lift" a try on the rear seats and see what happens. Thanks for the response....
Eric

Well it's nice to hear that you don't have it so all apart you can't drive it!

My 107 is also operational too, even though the passengers seat is still in the basement! I took mine out for a drive last Saturday before the Nor easter dropped another 8 inches ontop of the 5 inches from a few days before that! No top down , but it was just fun to drive it!

Next I want to finish up the carpet installation, which won't take but a few hours. I still need to spray the grey section of the lower dash. The grilles to the speakers are already refinished and I'm also planning to replace speakers too! Do you know which size they are? I don't, but It look's like they are either 3 1/2" or 4 "?

I also have two oval speakers in the back deck lid, or back seat bottom area in your 107. Do you have only the two dash speakers? I forgot who it was here recently that built speaker boxes that fit behind the bucket seats? But for me, that's where I like to keep my camera bag, tri-pod, stuff like that!

Do you still have the original Becker, or an aftermarket?

BB

The two fornt speakers are 3.5" but I am told 4" fit just fine and is a no brainer upgrade. In the rear, there are a pair of 6.5" sidemounts. I intend to use the same covers but replace the speakers. I have the Blaupakundt cassette player which is fine but I want to upgrade to a CD player.......I have already pulled it using coat hanger wires in the slot and it looks like a straightfoward substitution.
My carpet is in good shape and with the seats replacement and wheels redone this car is goung to be sharp! When i had the front end alignment and tires put on they could not beleive it is a 80 model......
I looked at a 75 450SL this week which is local as well in a very rural community. The engine has a skip at idle but levels out and runs good at higher speeds. The black smoke tells me it is running to rich wth a vacuum or injector problem. The seller told me he took it to a shop and they told him he had a lifter problem and wanted $500 for the repair. I told him to get a seconf opinion at the shop I use. The paint on the trunk is bad as well as the right rear quarter. The maifolds have been changed under the hood. Looks like a cheap, cheap paint job. Interior not bad. Price is $3500 firm. Top is nice and also has the hardtop. Dark blue exterior and blue interior. I like the color combo.....wheels are from a later SL........engine compartment looks rough form the years of cat convertors under the hood. Hood pad is missing. One crack in the dash pad.....
