Euro-lights

My 1972 350SL 4.5 (USA version) has been converted to euro-style lights, Bosch units. Does the original wiring have the capacity to supply the high output 80/100 watt H-4 bulbs, or should I stick with the standard 55/60w bulbs?

Thanks for your help,

230/8

Performance Products seems to think so, they sell bulbs for that application.

I burned up the wiring in a Volvo using those bulbs so I would say do not use them unless you are sure. The people who sell them are trying to make a living and will tell you it is OK for all cars, but my experience says otherwise.

The amperage draw on high beam bulbs (2) with the 60w bulbs is 10 amps, the draw with 100w bulbs is 16.6 amps. You may have to change or clean your fuses. The only way you can burn up the wiring is from heat generated from the bulb itself heating the area around the wiring or poor corroded or loose connections which is most likely.

Be careful. What if the recommendation is wrong?

If you already have the Euro lights, then the cost of the relays and wiring is
trivial. Installation is straightforward. I've been running Euro Lights 100/130
for about 6 years now on two different 124's. Relays are the way to go.

After some thought, I'm with Steve on this. If you miss 1 connection and burn the wiring, the PITA factor is not worth it. For the extra 6-8 bucks go the relay route.
