'90 300SL Engine

Looking for the best price on a factory new short block to replace in the 300SL. Or if someone knows of a reputable shop that sells a thoroughly rebuilt 300SL 6 cyl/24 valve short block??

My engine has 160k miles, uses a little oil between changes and am looking for future costs of engine replacement vs. selling mine, buying another SL with lesser mileage on its motor.

Thanks,
Hz

With routine maintenance you are going to be hard pressed to wear out the short block that you are currently running at less than 300k. You will have to do head work before you should have to touch that bottom end.

Agreed. The M104 engine configuration is legendary for its bulletproof bottom end.

Your big engine projects will probably be a timing chain and a head gasket down the road. Each of them far cheaper than a short block...

Is it the same case with the V8 from the 1990 500SL?

No. The M119 V8 has proven to be pretty solid all around. Wear and tear of ancillary components are probably another story, based on individual experiences, mileage and driving habits.
