Help attaching Window glass to Regulator
1 Attachment(s)
I have a driver side window on a 1978 450SL that detached itself from the window regulator. I was wondering if I need any type of adhesive to make sure the glass stays in the rubber tracks. So far, I've just pushed it back into the tracks (about 1/2" of the glass is in the rubber) I would like to avoid taking the door panel off frequently.
Also, as shown in the pic below, I guess the previous owner's had some repairwork done to the window mechanism and they "cut" part of the door frame . Without the stiffness, the window mechanism seems to move around when being actuated. I was planning on welding (or bolting) a backing plate. Any other suggestions or advise? Thanks, Regis |
Mine too!
This just happened in my 560SL. I took the rubber channel out of the metal "u-shaped" track and stuck it back in with black silicone. Then pushed the window into the rubber channel.
Lasted about 5 minutes :( Did you ever fix yours? There is NO information in the R107 manual about this (the section on removing the window says the rubber, metal, and glass are all one piece!) Anyone have a creative solution here?? :) |
I just had my Driver's side window replaced because i closed he door too hard and BAM. When I had the glass replaced they asked me not to open the window for 2-3 days to allow some adhesive to dry. ??????
Here's a site where you may be able to ask a pro for advice: http://www.glasslinks.com/tips_install.htm |
I have used 3M double sided foam tape strips to hold mirror glass to metal frames on TV teleprompters I used to maintain. You'd be surprised how many times a camaraman would run a TV camera into a wall or post and break the mirror. It might work for you. Get it at the hardware store.

I ended up just pushing the window back down into the old rubber material. I'm sure it'll pop back out again but its just a compression type fit....My car is always garaged and top is always off (in San diego) so the windows will be down for the most part...I just won't use it as much and when i do, I'll use it carefullly.....Good luck...
Also, I ended up welding an extra piece of material where the "cut" in the frame was. This removed the amount of play in the window mechanism which I believe might have been a part of the cause as to why the window came off its rubber track.... Regis |
