gas door release

Would like to know how to release the gas filler door on our 72 450 sl just bought. It took me awhile to find the hood release would really like some help on the gas door sure its right in front of my nose. Thanks

If it's the same as an '80, it locks only when the doors are locked. With doors unlocked, to open the fuel flap, you push on the edge towards the front of the car. Hope this helps.

Thanks just went out and tried it it works just like I thought right under my nose .
