Can you elaborate on this repair manual? I bought the Mercedes DVD and it was pure junk, utterly useless.

It's for a 96 SL500.

Thanks.

Alldata has a DIY type subscription service. They cover just about every car and are quite useful. Check out their website.

spinedoc: is it possible you got a poorly-made bootleg of the M-B DVD? I think the DVD is fantastic. The one thing I wish it had was a decent search feature for the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual. Also, did you ever find a console cover for your car? I'm looking for one too. Found a used one in Atlanta for $400 which includes the entire center console, but I passed on it.

callen: the DVD has three important components. In my opinion nothing else is an accpetable substitute without them. First, it has the schematics. Second, it has procedures for assembly and disassembly. And third, it has the diagnostic manuals which give you step-by-step procedures for troubleshooting problems based upon both symptoms and diagnostic trouble codes.

I got it from a guy on Benzworld.org for $30. I don't know if I would recommend him to anyone though, because he is very difficult to contact. And when I referred him to someone last year, it took several months for the DVD to get delivered. If you email me I will give you his phone number.

Carson, you are selling the WIS, correct? Specific to the R129, how would you compare what you offer with the official R129 DVD from M-B? All I know is that the word on WIS is that it is very, very clumsy to navigate through the menus, and the R129 DVD is superior in this regard.

One comment about the R129 DVD from M-B: the Diagnostic Manual for the '90-'93 power top system is for the W124 cabriolet! This is a big mistake, and maybe it has been subsequently corrected in a revision to the DVD. If you get a DVD and it is not, let me know, and I can get the correct Diagnostic Manual to you.

i do have wis, but it is not 129 specific, it covers everything, i personally don't have a problem using wis, it can be hard to learn, but rest assured if you use it you will learn it, i have agroup guide that will assist in finding what you need, and also i will help any one find anything in wis wheather i sold it to you or not, i do have the 129 and 140 dvds they are prtty complete, i will see if mine has been revised or have the same issue you mentioned.
