hardtop storage

My father-in-law owns one of these cars. He does not have a garage, and needs a place to store the hardtop. Does anyone know whether the dealerships or anyone offers storage services?

Somewhere in the original manual for my '88 560sl, I read that the dealer will store the hardtop. When I went to my local dealer to check it out, they laughed at me, so I don't think they offer that service anymore.

Before I had a garage, I stored mine in a closet or up against a wall in the bedroom. For a while, I thought it would make an interesting coffee table.

It's much easier now that I have a garage. Maybe a local independent mechanic can help you out, or maybe a neighbor.

The dealers are supposed to offer this service, but they are not very interested in it. Not only do the tops take up a lot of space, but my dealer told me that people come in and out all the time wanting to have the top on, the top off, the top back on again and so forth depending on the weather.

I have stored mine outdoors on the MB top stand with the MB cover over it. This was for a fortnight in summer. I checked every day to make sure the wildlife wasn't setting up camp in it. I guess that in the winter it will be on the car!

Edit:

Word of caution: make sure it doesn't blow over. I left mine stored outdoors on the stand over night while away on a trip and it blew over in a storm. Not much damage, but enough to really irritate me.
