Windshiel Washer Reservoir

I have 2 questions regarding my windshield washer reservoir and washer system on my 1990 500SL.
1) What exactly is that aluminum coiled tubular thing inside the w/w reservoir with rubber lines going to it? It doesn't look like it has anything to do with the washing system.
2) The small washer line for the windshield sprayers has some sort of eletrical connection comming right out of the end of the tube where it attaches to the washer pump. Does anyone know what this is. It looks like the wire is right inside if the plastic tube that goes from the pump up to the sprayers on the hood. Thanks in advance.

item number 1 is a heater coil, the engine coolant travels in the coil to heat the washer bottle fluid.
item number 2 is basically the samething, except the wires are to heat the hoses. the hose heater is done using electricity rather than heated coolant
