Brake Replacement, 560SL...Pads or Pad+Rotors?

On a 560sl, can you change just the pads or do you have to do pad+rotors? thanks.

Pads can be replaced indepent of rotors

As far as I know, there is no need to replace your rotors if they are in good condition. If however they look like they are out of spec, it is suggested that they be replaced, not machined. They are relatively cheap anyway.

So go ahead and change the pads if the rotors are fine.

There is a spec

There is a spec for service limit and repair limit. Check the CD. I do not recall the numbers. If you are changing the pads you have to have a little more material so the rotor will last through the pad life. You do not cut MB rotors as there is little extra material to hit the limit.

My understanding was that ideally rotors are replaced when pads are; at the very least they should be checked, and like the last poster I don't know the minimum acceptable thickness. I've also seen suggestions that they be replaced every other set of pads. I've seen consistently the info that they're not eligible for turning, as the remaining thickness would be inadequate.
