please help I need an inexpensive odb2 code scanner?

I am looking for an inexpensive tool to read codes for my 129 as the check engine light came back on.

Rick,
I got one at Pep Boys for $89.00 plus tax. The book that comes with it is pretty much useless, but I have the MB publication that gives descriptions of all the codes and locations of related components. I have repaired my 129 3 times with these tools very easily. It is amazing how the light comes on, I plug in the reader, take the code to the book, buy the part, and install it. That is Easy! If you need help with codes after you get your scanner let me know. Good luck!
Brian

I ordered one on the web last night that will interface with a laptop.
I appreciate the offer to help with the codes..

Please Let me know how you like that notebook adapter and how it works, that sounds cool, I wonder if it will give more information than the cheap one that I have. Thanks!

Mercedes Bemnz Service

It is the Mercedes Benz Service book, Has Model year 1996, models 124, 129, and 140, Introduction into service. This is for the M104 engined cars it looks like, the number at the bottom is S-2607-093. It is 77 pages and has the VIN and model information and then the HFM engine controls, and component locations, it also has the list of codes, what each code means, and what component is causing the code along with it's location on these 3 models. I have lots of publications, but this one has proven to be very useful.

I obtained my copy from a fellow MB clubb member at his estate sale when he passed away, so I don't know if you could get one, I bet you could call MBUSA and ask. Good luck.
