87 560sl cc vaccum valves
posted in tech help with no replies:
troubleshooting the climate control system. started at the single unit/4 valve assy behind the glove box. I have vacuum on the line from intake. but when i remove each of the four circuit lines the valve assy each male plug on the assy has what looks like a copper plug in it flush with the end of the male plug. Is this like a plunger in the valve that gets pulled into the valve as it is energized or has someone plugged all four lines at the valve assy? Also, had to remove a "becker" black box with a lot of male pins and nothing connected to it. Is this part of the original radio that has since been replaced with a cd player?

The Becker black box is probably the alarm control unit.
I did not see any plugs when I removed the lines from my switchover unit. The parts blowup does not show anything other than vacuum lines connecting to the unit. What symptoms are you troubleshooting?

defrost and center vents are open all the time. Found the problem. Earlier owner had disconnected vacuum line from broke vacuum element in the blower box and capped the line with a golf tee. This obviously returned the center vents to "open". He then hacksawed throught swing arm on the bad element I guess to keep everything open. Looks like too much work to get to the element in the blower box, so i cut some black foam strips to partially block the defrost vents. Now getting much more flow through the center vents. Before i found all this i bought a new vacuum switchover valve (ouch!). The old one tested out good so its now on ebay. thanx for help!
