MB 107SL Injectors

Regarding Mb 107 injectors , I am seeking a little advice re when to service or replace the injectors on a 1982 500SL.

My vehicle has 250KM and runs fine, however I would like know if I should plan on injector replacement in due course, as my Indi commented that my car could use new ones to make it run better considering the milage.

Do injectors wear , what symptoms are evident if they are worn , is my indi pulling the wool over my eyes .

Any comments greatly appreciated .

I have a track car. It is a Porsche and was running just fine but I decided to have the 4 fuel injectors serviced anyway. When they came back and installed, the car had more power with no effect on fuel mileage in normal driving. One of the injectors was partially clogged according to their before and after testing. Engine is smoother and more powerful now.

Had I not traded my 400E with 138K on it, my next step would have been to have its injectors serviced.

Injectors are extremely easy to replace. If you do it yourself, you can get them from ********AZ for 26 bucks each. If you let your indie do it, the parts will cost goodness knows how much! But don't let them charge more than 2 hours labor -- it'll probably take half that!

Hi Guys ,

Thanks for the positive replies , I went ahead today and had 8 new injectors fitted to my 82 500SL , with a great result .

The engine runs a lot smoother and starts easy, it also idles very quiet .

Well worth the cost of $26 each and $70 labour by my indie .

Also I had injector seals fitted at the same time $7 for eight .

Car has improved without doubt .

Black Soot

Hi,

Black Soot eliminated . As you know I just replaced the fuel injectors on my 1982 500SL Euro 107 and have now found the complete elimination of black soot coming out of the exhaust upon cold start when the auto choke is on .

For the last few years I have had this thick black soot at cold start, that goes away as soon as the auto choke shuts off hiowever new injectors have fixed this .

Can anyone please explain .

This was happening because your injectors were leaking after you shut the car off, leaving a pool of fuel in the engine.
