Transmission HELP!!!! Need decent shop

My transmission is out and my lame local shop finally admits they cant get it right. So I need a business which can sell me a trans for my 1994 SL320.

Anyone recommend anyone? So many crooks in the auto business.

transmissions for 70s m/b

You might try mercedes part dept for mercedes rebuilt. Try to get the parts salesman too give you mechanics price, they will dropship to any local shop for installation. This may well be best possbile quality source for rebuilt. good luck, Abe G

Try these...

Used or rebuilt:
Silver Star Recycling (California)
Potomac German Auto Parts
Adsit (www.adsitco.com) - search the forum first, I recall reading of some problems dealing with this outfit

Rebuilt:
MB dealer

I second the idea of talking to the MB dealer.. I hear their rebuilts come with a warranty good at ANY MB dealer (you don't want to be travelling and find the rebuilt trans is no good!). I also understand they use the most updated parts (newer springs, updated K1 piston, etc, etc.)

I agree the work should be done by the dealer. It may be more $$$ but you are getting the MB warranty as opposed to indie. There are things that should be done at the dealer, and I think when it comes to power train, this is one of them.

Then again, it depends on how long you intend to keep your car.

Yep Adsit was my main focus. They seem to be the only "aftermarket" (non-dealer) with any respectability.

$2155 not including torque converter. (no installation) Well unless someone comes across a better idea I think thats what Ill be doing.

shouldve couldve wouldve .....sheeeshh pfffttt (do I express myself?)

Took it to the local guy who did some acceptable work previously. 10 weeks later he hasnt got it done. Lets hope I can get the car and my trans back without too much hassle. I paid him for half the job. Likely I will eat that.

Live and learn.

Transmission Repair

I don't know where you are located but in upstate New York the man to see is Shawn Buffo of BUFF O MATTIC 11 TRANSMISSIONS. He rebuilds his own torque convertors amoung other service available. In additon he does bench work for other facilites from Buffalo to Long Island.

I work for NYS DMV investigating repair shop complaints for over 24 years and he's never had a problem.

The facility is located in Glenmont, New York just outside of Albany. The telephone # is 518-434-4763.

Good Luck
