Talking Any know what the torque spec is for the

valve covers? I am going to replacd the right side gasket, I looked thru the shop manual and I found a reference for engine covers and the torque spec of 3NM, sound right? 3NM is less then a pound of torque? thanks

Yes - you do not want to overtighten them or you will ruin the edge of the cover. The gasket compresses only slightly to seal. Do go and buy some new washers.

There are washers beneath the bolt head

or inside the cover? The former owner replaced the left side gasket, but never got around to the right, so he gave the gasket to me. As I see it the gaskets groove is slip on hte cover and then the cover re-installed. I count 4 bolts on the cover. Is that correct?

Thanks and I will get some new washers.

My mechanic agreed with you 100%. He tightens them

by hand until they he can't get his fingers to move them and then takes a socket wrench and tightens them a 1/2 to quarter turn more or until they are snug. He also said replace the washers.

Thanks again, it is supposed to be 60 degrees tomorrow so I think if I am not to busy I will change the gasket then.
