Front brake pad replacement

I did my New England winter storage stuff on my '88 560SL, including my obsessive cleaning, which leaves even the undercarriage cleaned and waxed. Oil and filter are changed, and the car is on jack stands with the front wheels off. I've ordered new brake pads and wear detectors for the front, and they'll be delivered in 2 days. I think I'm good to go, but sometimes I'm not as smart as I think. Any help/guides out there to coach me through the DIY process?

Since rotors tend to rust simply from the moisture in the surrounding air, I would think it would be smart to wait until you bring the car out for spring.

To remove the pads it helps to use a C-clamp to compress the pads against the caliper pistons. This will force brake fluid back up into the resevoir. To avoid overflow, I suggest getting a small fluid pump and removing half of the brake fluid in the resevoir. Then top it up with fresh fluid if needed when you have the new pads in.

Also, wear mechanics gloves and be sure to wear at least a painters' mask when removing the old pads to avoid breathing any asbestos dust.

I've never gotten a C Clamp to work without removing the caliper. MB makes a special tool that will depress the caliper pistons with the calipers still attached to the rotors. I've attached a picture of one.

I bought a similar one off of eBay for under $50 and it seems to work OK.

Maheath, that tool looks great, how does it work? It allows enough room to remove the pads after opening the calipers up?
Any pics of the tool in use?
Thanks.

No pics in use. I've used the tool after removing the brake pads to push the caliper pistons back in place.
