SL envy
I mighta bought this tonight, if I had sold my guitars.
I am waiting until after the Holidays to offer them though. '87 560SL The only thing that turned me off about that car, was the recent feedback that the seller received. I'm gonna have to start hanging out in this forum. I have a lot to learn about the SL. |

It looks like a lot of the "serious" 100K repairs had been addressed. What was repaired also implies that the owner knew what he was doing with this car. If the repairs were documented or obvious, the car might have been worth looking at. The hood pad mentioned (both of them, actually) would be around $100 and a little of your time and mess; on the pinstriping, I did an absolutely professional job - second time i've ever done it in my life - for $10.00
But this forum is definitely worth reading, because a lot of "little, but expensive" repairs are also described. Two things I've noticed about eBay with the selling of cars; 1. Someone will think that a problem you might not even notice is absolutely a deal-breaker, right or wrong. 2. You will NEVER be able to make everyone happy, unless you want to go broke. I'd be surprised if any car seller with over 50 sales has >98% feedback.

Thanks for the info.
I got real lucky on eBay with my SDL. Beautiful and a lot of balls. Your car looks great. White would be my first choice. Love that Burl! I've got a lot of Black Walnut Burl veneer that I'd like to use sometime. Your prices seem very reasonable. How did you wrap it around the 90 degree curve so nicely? There's another interesting SL ending very soon. '85 380SL Maybe it's for the best that I don't have my funds liquified yet? Better that I learn more of the pitfalls before I jump into an SL. |

Looks like it may be a pretty good deal. I just saw an 89 with 73K miles get a bid over $16K. Reverve was not met That gives you an idea of the potential. When you check out these vehicals be shure you take a good look at the dash board. Most at this age have a $100.00 cover over a cracked $2000.00 dashboard.

There are probably a few snipers ready to pounce on that '85. I timed my SDL just now. Dead stop to 60mph in 16 seconds. It feels so powerful, I was expecting under 12 seconds. What do these SL's do for 0-60 ? |

560SL's are supposed to get there in less than 8 seconds. I doubt my '88 has been able to do that in a long, long time.

From what you can see, It seems like a nice car. However, the interiors are not Palomino color. It is either Cream, Creme Beige or Parchment.

I decided not to do the flat black "tunnels" entirely because of reflections. My thinking is that this will last a lot longer than any veneer in a car (i've read, BTW, that the "zebrawood" in older 107's is the most difficult veneering material of all to do and make it last, it is a very rough and oily wood). My console was redone in veneer, but I'm looking around for a "bad" console plate to try out using three-dimensional printing.

The photos look very nice. Seems like a good solution for a shape like that.
That '85 sold for $6000 after all. They don't show much of the dash... but I just love this '67 I have no problem with that sunroof either. I would always keep the top down in my youth... but I tend to hide from the sun nowadays. I'd love to pick something like that up for about $10K, although I have a hunch I'm dreaming here? |
