Soft Top Hard Cover Seal Installation ?

Got a question concerning the U-shaped seal that seals the edge of the soft top compartment hard cover when closed on a 560SL. How is the rubber seal held in place? Does it fit into grooves like the window and door weatherstrip, is it held to the body with weatherstrip adhesive, or does it use some kind of clips? Have searched this forum with no results (though did find the same question with no answer several years ago), and the service manual is no help. Just want to know what I'm doing before I start replacing it to avoid messing something up. Preliminary examination yielded the fact that it is stuck to the body real good. Thanks.

The first, non-OEM one I bought fit like cr__ and no amount of weatherstrip adhesive would make it fit right. The second OEM seal just about fell in to the groove, maybe it was a little tricky at the ends. Marking the middle of the car and the seal and working from the middle will help, because it does stretch a little. Originally, it had been held here and there with small amounts of adhesive (particularly at the ends), so that's how I replaced it. There were no clips of any kind. I had to remove and repaint small amounts of surface rust on the cover itself.
