Stupid Things I've Recently Done

1. When reinstalling my polished/chrome goodies, I tried not to get too excited about finishing it. Too bad I wasn't careful enough to notice at first that the water pump pulley was rubbing on the dipstick holder. Fortunately, I found it and moved it (with great effort, there's still only about 1/16") before any serious harm was done.

2. When I was shaking the car down, I floored it on an open road - and the throttle stuck there! I shut the engine down, opened the hood, pulled the throttle back and limped home, very slowly.

After changing my pants and cleaning the seat, I discovered that the culprit was the poor dressing of the spark plug wires from my $140 dollar ill-fitting ignition wire set. I've tied the offending wires with DOUBLED twist-ties so that this can't happen again.

Don't feel like the lone ranger

When I changed the chain on my 380, I put it back together with the tube rubbing on the pulley. I started it and it made this godawful squealing noise like everything was about to come apart. I shut it down, and after a while realized that I would have to run it to find the cause of the noise. So I started it again and looked around for a very long two minutes before I found the problem. I really thought I had trashed something in the process of doing the chain.

Been there, done that

Me too, after replacing the spark plugs and some other stuff that required memoving the air filter, I went out for a test drive. Out of the first light I had trouble accelerating. Stupid me thought nothing of it and just pressed harder. Now the accelerator stuck, I was in traffic (fortunately not heavy) and had a red light ahead. Fun, fun fun. Was lucky and managed to get into a parking lot and fix things. Don't think I will ever forget.
