Just wandering
About the headlight wipers on my 99 SL 500, there are the neatess thing and as I understand they are there for snow and ice but they are in fact totally useless, don't get me wrong they are vissually appealing and they give the car that special look, I like them but who thought of putting the glass tubulation righ in the path of the wiper, right in the center of the headlight, don't make any sense to me, just wondering.

I agree. They're about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.
However, they are a statutory requirement throughout Europe wherever xenon lights are fitted, so those of us with 98 and later have to have them. Actually, my wife's BMW doesn't have a headlamp cleaning system and after a few days driving at this time of year, the lighting is much diminished.

Just a thought for just wondering
Perhaps the glass bumps on the headlight are to assist the wiper in ridding itself of the snow and ice buildup. As the wiper jumps over the protrusion it knocks the stuff off.

wiper
It sounds like it is going to get rid of a lot more than the snow and ice when it hits it.

You're probably right. What do I know? I live in Southern California. Mine just sit there and look cool.
