My Roof

Hi Guys

I have a 1996 SL500.

Last night I gave my car to my wife and when she came back home apparently she forgot to turn the lights off and my battery is discharged.

Any how I jump started it this morning but The Power roof button (Red Light in middle console) is constantly on and it is not working.

If any body knows why or what to do, I really appreciate it.

Thanks

Kian

Check your owners manual for re-syncing instructions. This is normal after the battery goes flat.

I haven't come across this before, and there are no synchronising instructions for the roof in my manual

I would advise against ever jump starting an SL - it's not unknown for ECUs to blow because of it.

I had the same thing happen after the jumpstart and blew the top control module. (not cheap). I hope this is not your issue. Do a search for top control module and I am sure you will find how to sync the vehicle.
Good luck.

There may be an easy solution. Have you tried just syching the windows. That is part of the process. Get in your car, ignition on and run both windows all the way down, then all the way up a couple of times. Then try the top again.

That is just the window synchronisation feature. If the power top light stays on then there's more to it.

Jumpstart!

Roof control module failure is a very common result of jumpstarting a R129.
Very dangerous ground........

I think when the light in the switch stays on after new battery just means that you need to resync the windows. That is what mine did, and it was fixed by holding the window switches up for 5 seconds after the windows have fully closed. I think we also has to resync the rollbar. that was done in the same procedure, only holding down the rollbar down half of the switch for 5 seconds after it has fully peen "stowed". Try that, as it may just solve your problems.
