Two steering wheel questions

560sl. The shop had my steering wheel off to do some work and I'm wondering if the airbag connection is good if I don't get an indicator lamp. How do I know it still works?

Also, the horn doesn't work. The fuse is good and other items on that circuit work. The shop actually had the steering wheel off twice, and after the first time the horn worked fine, but not the second. They took it off again to fix something in the instrument panel. Is this just a connector that they might have forgetten to put back? How hard is it to remove the steering wheel? I'm gonna take it back to the shop, I just want to know how it works and what the likely scenario was.

Thanks, David.

Very easy to remove the stearing wheel

1) Disconnect battery
2) Two trox scews hold the airbag on from the back, remove pull out bag and unplug
3) There is a 10 mm hollow hex head tapered seat bolt holding on the wheel. With the key in the lock position remove that bolt. It's tight.
4) You should notice alignment marks on the spline. These should be aligned or I belive the manual allows for 1 spline notch to either side. Make a not of how these are aligned.
5) The wheel will just pull off, no puller required.

You should now see 4 brushes that ride against 4 rings on the back of the wheel. Make shure these are OK.

There is a small plate that retaines the brushes that must be removed to take out the instrument panel. My guess is this is whare the screwed up. Remove the three screws that hold the plate and make shure all wires are connected.

I would strongly suggest that you have a friend hold the wheel or if you don't have any friends (like me...) use your knees to hold the wheel, not relying on the steering lock. It has been known to be broken by removing the steering wheel with relying just on the steering lock.
