Fuel tank removal 1980 450SL
 

I need to remove the tank because of it sitting 12 years, are there just the bolts on the bottom of the metal plate or is there some hide on the top of the trunk plate too. Thanks Michael

I'm assuming you are talking about the plate that covers the gas tank inside the trunk. To remove this plate you need to remove the carpet off of the plate and remove about 40 bolts arround the edges of the plate. There is also 1 tiny screw in the center of the plate. At least this is the way it is on the 560SL, I would assume the 450SL is similare.
