great place for the fuse box...not
Unbelievable...the fuse box is located in a place that makes it almost impossible for me to see the fuses. Good German engineering, I guess. My blower motor doesn't work all of a sudden, 1986 560SL, the recirc button doesn't light up either. The PO mentioned a lack of A/C but it would appear we have the dreaded ACC servo and perhaps some other issues to deal with. I can figure out that mess but I am astounded that there was no better place for the fuses than on the kick panel.

Aw come on , it's not that bad. You just gotta bust a rib leaning on the door sill while kneeling on the ground, then twist your neck to the right while holding your flashlight so you can see the fuses. The real challenge is to get the fuses in without dropping them down inside the panel.

I gotta say, my main issue is high blood pressure...even on meds, if I get in the position where I can see the fuses, I get a blood pressure headache and have to lay down for a while...head is too low, below my heart and straining to see.

Its not too bad with a flashlight and mirror. Right now I'm removing my dashboard, that requires some uncomfortable positions.

Never mind where it is, the fuses themselves are awful - probably from a design when Thomas Edison was around. Very exciting to install even WITH a tool. Not to mention the obvious problem of dissimilar metals with the original fuses (aluminum/copper), virtually guaranteeing eventual corrosion and hair-pulling problems. But considering that the car's final design was probably fixed in 1969-70, I suppose that it can be explained away.

Hey sometimes working in these positions presents an opertunity. About 25 years ago I had a 1969 Cougar. Now this car had this feature where, when you open the door the stearing wheel pops out of the way (something a 107 could certainly use).
It was a cold fall night and I was repairing the mechanism that released the wheel when opening the door. I was in the car, in my driveway minding my own bussiness and working on this system. I had a drop light through the window and the door closed to somewhat stay warm. I was sitting upside down in the driver seat with my head under the dash and legs draped over the back of the seat. I was working diligently away when two neighbohood girls approached the car and started talking to me. Every time they said something I had to crack open the door to listen and talk back. As I was trying to get this done they were really being a pain in the ass. So I asked them to get in the back so I wouldent have to keep opening the door. They got in the back and continued the conversation. Sooner or later one of them started working on my belt buckle and shortly after my pants were off. Needles to say I did not get my stearing wheel fixed that night. John Roncallo

You think it's difficult in a RHD SL  - you should have a go in the UK version with steering column, pedals, controls and steering wheel ALL in the way, as well as bending double , those girls would have had a field day!!!!!! cheers Jim

Servo?...
I don't believe an '86 of any model still used the servo...
or is my ADHD and memory loss kicking in? Kevin By the way - did the steering wheel of the Cougar ever get fixed?
