Convertible top wont close - 1997 sl

just replaced the hydraulic cylinder that i rebuilt and now the top wont lock in place. everything works fine until the front of the top gets to windshield but it wont complete the cycle. i can hear the pump still running but nothing happens. when i originally removed the cover on top of the windshield there was a small resistor looking thing that was attached to the cover that was puuled loose. it looks fine though. a friend with a 95sl suggested that it might be an interlock switch. any help would be appreciated. btw, the hydraulic fluid is full.

Try to "help" the soft top by pulling the doft top down when it makes contact with the windshield. There is an indented handle right above the rear view mirror. Pull it down while pushing on the "red" switch. It should help it complete the cycle.

That is a proximity sensor on the channel, there is a counterpart in the front bow like a small magnet, they should align with each other, and send a signal to the controller when near each other, thats what activates your locks, check the connection on the sensor and make sure is in the right place.
