hole in softtop.

I need to repair a quarter sized whole in the softtop of my '88 560sl. I am not too worried about appearance because I plan on replacing the top next spring. I just want to keep the water out. Does anyone know the best way to patch this hole?

Top Hole

I was told to buy 3m spray adhesive and them buy denim patches for jeans.
I was told that if you spray the top and then the patch you don't have to iron them just keep the halves ligned up and it comes out clean.
I am about to do this with my neighbors black top with black patches this week.

I went to an automotive upholstery shop and got a scrap piece of convertible top. I glued it on the inside with "Marine Goop".
Bob's your uncle.
