What's it worth? 84 280 SL

Greetings,

I am helping a friend sell his 1984 280 SL. It is in mint condition with 40,000 original miles. Dealer serviced, all records. Blue metallic paint. I do not have more details than that. Any thoughts on general price ranges?

Maybe $5,000 to $15,000. Condition is everything, along with service records. Low miles is nice but so many gray market cars didn't get their pre-importation kilometers carried over properly.

Now up to $19,000, with 4 days to go. A desirable car, only a handful of 107/103s in the U.S., but obvious shilll bidding.

280 Value

Rich -

Go over to Roy Spencer's [oursl.com] and peruse the listings under the cars for sale section of the classifieds- it will give you an idea of asking prices at least (there are 14 of them listed as of a few minutes ago).

I think he provides a free listing service to attract business for his restoration work - maybe your pal should put it on there also?

Wish I were in a position right now - my 500 pines for a (euro) little brother...

Regards,
Kevin

P.S. - did you figure out your duty cycle/rough running problem of a few weeks ago yet?

Cars in different places bring varied values. Where is the car located- you dont say. Is it a euro or a USA version? Is it a stick or manual? Milage and condition are not equal- condition is more important. You've left a lot begging to be asked for a proper valuation answer to be given. In South Florida there are nearly a dozen SL's in the Palm Beach autotrader at any one time- all with very high prices- but very little cars changing owners.

I've seen individual cars on ebay with no reserve listed as many as six times in a row - back to back to back. Some of the ebay dealers are simply shameless - they even try to cover up the fact that they are bidding on their own cars. The whole thing is such a cesspool.
