SL600 Cant Open Trunk Batery Dead

Well, I finnally got the SL600 home to CT. Dont all start drooling, its a front end wreck. But I have to say it sure looks good even wrecked.

In any case the trunk wont open. The key goes in and turns but nothing happens. I have a suspician that the trunk lock is electric and maybe that is why it wont open, since the battery is stoned dead. Is this true or not true.

Now since the battery is in the trunk, I cant get at it to charge it or repace it. I would assume if all of the above is true, there is a standard proceedure to get into the trunk with a dead battery.

Ideas anyone.

Thank You

AFAIK, the trunk lock is mechanical. That one is supposed to be able to lock and unlock without juice, as it is how you would go about jumping it if it were dead.

I think that there might be a terminal under the hood where you can jump it, let me check to see if mine has it.

Got it opened after a look at another 129 today. The body shop assembled the rear of car and missed the latch when installing the rod from lock to latch.
By remaoval of rt license lamp a screwdriver can be inserted into the slot to release the latch. Still cant see it but its there. Look at one open and its obvious. With out seeing it , it was tough to figure out how I was gonna do it.

Never Mind

I just found out you have to push the key in after rotating it. No dead bodies in the trunk.

Thanks

:) :)

LOL....

That happened to me when I was an SL newbie. Not only that, it happened again 6 months ago when for some reason I twisted the key and just waited there expecting the boot lid (trunk) to pop up. Of course it didn't and I was left rather embarrassed alongside my colleague who was waiting - once I remembered I have to push it too, I had to just start laughing and tell him quickly!!

Still making me chuckle now...

Glad to see it's not just me!

In the engine compartment towards the windshield on the driver's side has leads underneath a cover. Attach the positive jumper cable to one of the leads and ground the other jumper cable to the chassis to temporarily unlock all the locks. This works if your battery is completely dead and is locked. And yes it also took me a few minutes to realize that I had to push the lock in to open the trunk when I first got my SL.
