Question Help Finding Back Glass for 86 560SL

I need to replace the back glass on my 1986 560SL Hard top.

Any Suggestions on where I can find the glass?

Your best bet is to find a hardtop for sale close to you, buy it, and swap the back glass. Or, if it happens to be the same color as your interior and exterior, use it instead.

I think there are three types of back glass, unheated, heated with vertical lines, and heated with horizontal lines. I don't remember which one came last, vertical or horizontal, but it's compound safety glass and the lines are nearly invisible. I'm pretty sure that all 380SLs and 560SLs came with it and maybe even the last two or three years of the 450SL.

You don't want to price this glass at the dealer.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no alternative supplier for this glass. And removing the glass from another top is supposed to be extremely difficult to do without breakage. The good news is that there really are more hardtops out there than there are operational cars, the vast majority of the tops are in good shape, and it might be possible to get one with matching color. Beware, though, my top had some rust on the bottom of it.

Hi,
I was chasing a rear glass and located one on your East Coast, Tinted, laminated, heated without any signs of delamination and they were happy to ship to Australia. Shipping cost was astronomical due to size/weight. The screen was really reasonable in cost. Obviously I didn't get it, so it may still be there, they actually had a few to choose from. I don't remember the name of the Company, but it was large, however if you e-mail Anakela (female) at AnakelaHI@aol.com, you will be able to ascertain, who and where they are and if its viable. By all means mention you got her contact from the crazy Australian! May be worth the e-mail if your serious. Hope that helps.

Have a look at E-Bay $385.00 brand new heated, laminated rear screen in original Mercedes Box!
