original euro 500SL MPG
Quote:
I've got the original sales bumph for the fafacelifted (86-98) SL models and it quotes: Fuel type Fuel recomended for 500SL : Premium leaded DIN 51600 ( no mention of unleaded for the 500SL) Fuel recomended for 420SL : Premium leaded DIN 51600 or Premium lead free - DIN 51607. Fuel recomended for 300SL : Premium leaded DIN 51600 or Premium lead free - DIN 51607. nore: On my own '88 300SL model there is a switch to change from UK 95 octane (premium unleaded) to UK 98 octane (Super unleaded) though I have only used 95 octane myself. Fuel consumption for 500SL urban cycle - 15.6 litres /100km steady 90kph - 9.4 litres /100km steady 120kph - 11.5 litres /100km Fuel consumption for 420SL is: urban cycle - 14.6 litres /100km steady 90kph - 9.3 litres /100km steady 120kph - 11.4 litres /100km Fuel consumption for the 300SL (my own car is one of these) is: urban cycle - 14.5 litres /100km steady 90kph - 8.1 litres /100km steady 120kph - 10.2 litres /100km I've given the metric figures to save confusion between our UK gallons and US gallons but for conversion : Litres - UK gallon = 4.55 litres per UK gallon Litres - US gallon = 4.4 litres per US gallon Killometers - US or UK miles = 1.61 killometers per mile My own 300SL just about reaches the original figures still after over 100k miles on the clock ( shows why we all like these cars with engineering like that) Cheers Jim

I have an 87 560 sl and I use 93 octane and yesterday when I filled up for $45.00, my mileage came out to 16.5 mpg. That is a mix of some highway and city driving.

I have an 88 560SL. I average about 15.5 mpg mostly high speed highway. On long trips at moderat speeds under 70 mph I will exceed the factory sticker milage of 17 mpg. The factory window sticker says 17.0 highway and 14.0 city. This is the first car I have ever known to beat the factory sticker milage. Not that it's good milage but at least MB has some integrity.

My 86 560SL with 214xxx miles produces 15-16 MPG running 93 octane unleaded...mix of city and highway, with an occasional full-throttle romp down an onramp just for giggles.

i dont know what gear your euro 500 has but i would guess a 224. if it has that i bet it will do 20 mpg at 70 mph and 14 around town.
just a guess based on what my 500sec does. tom w
